Placing the Flags - The Process

After a Rochester resident subscribes, the Lions apply to the city for a permit to place the flag on the boulevard. Once the permit is approved, the city gives the Lions a diagram of where the flag can/cannot be placed on that property. At this point the location of the flag is verified by checking the resident’s registration material regarding “buried” sprinkler or other items as well as with the utility companies for buried pipes or lines. The preferred spot is two feet from the curb in line with the front door.

Once the location is determined, the flag insert is placed in the ground. Shown here are Lions Dave Fellows and Lynn Goldsworthy placing the 15 inch long insert in the ground to hold the flag pole.

The site is marked so that our
volunteers can find the location
when placing the flags.

Finally in May 2010 we had located and placed the insert for our first flag in the City of Rochester. Lions Lynn and project Chair Dean Swanson make a memorable flag placement!
